Dialogue between J P 제피 and Sharon Mizota on the role of spirituality in contemporary art

Art writer and archivist Sharon Mizota and I engaged in an exquisite-corpse style proposal for a dialogue on inter-being which was included in last year's summer issue of the Brooklyn Rail, edited by Susette Min and Amy Sadao. We have since fleshed out the dialogue about our respective experiences in and around art as seen through Sharon's engagement with Buddhist meditation practices and my investigation of Korean shamanism. We feel it represents a different take on what it means to be Asian American and make (or think about) art. We discuss spirituality, fragments, ancestors, gender, culture, ceremony, the limits of the contemporary art establishment, and more. The full dialogue can be read here.
